DAY, VANANTWERP AND DORSETT TAKE HOME WALLYS AT EDDYVILLEBy Scott Watson This past Saturday was a special day of racing at Eddyville Raceway Park where it was a National Dragster Challenge race with the Super Pro, Pro and Sportsman division winners would take home a coveted “Wally” trophy along with the prize money. In the Sportsman it was Mackenzie Dorsett of Panora continuing her winning ways by taking home the win when her opponent in the final round, Kole Vogel of Lineville, left the starting line too early and lit the red light giving the win to Dorsett. In the Super Pro finals it was John Day of Waterloo putting together an eighteenth-thousandths package in the win over Josh Kanselaar of Pleasantville. Kanselaar broke-out trying to make-up the starting line advantage Day had over him. It was a battle of Ford Mustangs in the Pro final with Tim Van Antwerp of Unionville having more than a tenth of a second better reaction time than Paul Songayllo of Indianola and thus Van Antwerp cruised to the win for his trip to victory lane and the “Wally” trophy. Mackenzie Dorsett made it two wins on the day by capturing the Pure Street win in the finals over Tony Mahaffey of Agency who left the starting line too early. The Top Dragster final pitted the Des Moines drivers of Dennis Livingston and Larry Easter. Easter left the starting line just two-thousandths of a second too early giving the win to Livingston. The Top Sportsman finals had Artie Craver of Montezuma and his Corvette against the 2004 Ford Mustang of Mark Bacon of Fort Dodge. Bacon and his Mustang went broke out by four-thousandths of a second giving the win to Craver. The win by Craver put him against Livingston in the Top Runoff which would produce the closest race of the day with Livingston getting the win over Craver by four-ten thousandths of a second which comes out to less than an inch at the finish line separating the two vehicles. In Junior Dragster action, Chris Labs of Center Point bested Robbie Massey of Des Moines in the finals while it was a battle of brother against sister in the Jr Dragster Consi finals. Chad Bacon got the better of his older sister, Chelsea, and took home bragging rights for the week. In the Jr Dragster All Star Runoff it was Labs taking home the bonus savings bond provided by Sugar Grove Custom Cars. |
